How to Register as a Sole Proprietor in Serbia: Guide for Foreigners
Registering as a sole proprietor is almost identical for foreigners and Serbian citizens. The difference lies mainly in the identity document used and in the residence status. The steps are below.
1. Choosing the activity
The activity is chosen according to the national classification of activities (NKD).
2. Preparing the documents
- Passport.
- Completed registration application for founding a sole proprietorship, for the APR.
- Proof of payment of the registration fee (around 1,500 dinars).
3. Filing the application with the APR
The application can be filed in person, by post or online. The processing time is 7 working days. Registration for foreigners is the same as for citizens, provided you hold a valid identity document.
4. Obtaining the tax ID (PIB)
The PIB is assigned automatically upon registration and is required for all tax obligations. After 7 working days the registration decision (APR decision) arrives by e-mail or at your home address, if you provided one in the application.
5. Opening a business bank account
To open an account you need the APR decision, the PIB and your passport. The bank may also ask for proof of residence or stay in Serbia (the registration of address, known as the "white card", or a temporary residence permit).
