Residence in Serbia Through Your Own Company: What the Path Looks Like

Admin·August 14, 2026·5 min

For many foreign citizens, a company in Serbia is not just a business decision but also a path to regulated residence. That path is real and commonly used, but immigration rules change and differ by residence ground, so this is an area where you do not act on internet articles, including this one: you act after verifying the currently applicable conditions for your specific case.

How a company and residence work together

Temporary residence in Serbia is granted on various grounds, and for entrepreneurs and company owners the most relevant in practice are those linked to employment and conducting business activity. The typical path: incorporate a company, become employed in it or register your activity, then apply for residence on that basis, and where applicable for the single permit combining residence and work.

What to know before you start

  • The company must genuinely operate. A formally incorporated but inactive company is a weak basis: real business activity, clean books and settled obligations are expected. We provide that foundation through accounting from day one.
  • Documentation is prepared in advance. From proof of business and income to health insurance and an address: an incomplete application means returns and lost weeks.
  • Conditions and practice change. Both the rules and the authorities' practice get updated, so specific conditions are verified at the time of filing, not based on a friend's old experience.
  • The tax picture accompanies residence. Residence and business raise questions of tax residency and income taxation, which we cover in our guides on incorporation and double taxation treaties.

Our role on that path

We run the business side: incorporation support, accounting, payroll and taxes, so the company is a solid basis for residence. For the immigration part of the procedure we work with the legal counsel in our team, so the client gets the entire path in one place, in Serbian, English or Russian.

Planning a move to Serbia?

Book a conversation or send us a message with a short description of your situation: we will go through your case and tell you honestly what is realistic, how long it takes and what is required under the rules in force at that moment.
